As a former atheist who embraced faith, Mary Jo Sharp navigated both the post-Christian Pacific Northwest and the evangelical Bible Belt. Her journey into apologetics began as she sought answers amid Christian hypocrisy. Driven by compassion, she founded a non-profit apologetics ministry, which she’s led for 18 years while also teaching and serving as a pastor’s wife. At Houston Christian University, Mary Jo helped establish the first accredited apologetics program created by women. Her work with Darkroom Faith, a Gen Z-focused apologetics program, has reached around 240,000 students and is available online for free. Her ministry efforts have been featured in Christianity Today and on national media.
She serves on faculty with Summit Ministries Student Conferences, and is a published author with Kregel Publications, B&H Publications, and Zondervan.
Mary Jo is the author of the top-selling Bible study, “Why Do You Believe That?” as well as Living in Truth with LifeWay Christian Resources. Her most recent book with Zondervan is Why I Still Believe. A clear communicator with a heart for people, Mary Jo finds great joy in sharing the deep truths of her Lord and Savior.
Confident Christianity is an educationally focused ministry that engages the hard questions of faith through research, writing, training, and conversation.
Mary Jo lives with her husband and family in Portland, Oregon.
